Who we are:

Grub Cycle is a Social Enterprise aiming to place the lost value back onto food as something that should be eaten and not thrown away. Through Grub Cycle, we’re raising awareness of food waste by making surplus food accessible to buy at a bargain price.

Food waste in Malaysia:

1/3 of all food produced globally is wasted and thrown away. Malaysia, as a nation unfortunately is not an exception to this monumental global issue.

Highlighting this, in 2017, Malaysia wasted 15,000 tonnes of food on a daily basis. Of this daily food waste, 3,000 tonnes of which was edible and could have fed up to 2.2 million people 3 meals a day.

Our journey:

In 2016, Grub Cycle’s four founders crossed paths during a charity program, with a shared goal of reducing food wastage. Understanding that food waste in Malaysia is a huge problem with no signs of slowing down, the team began working towards initiatives that combat this and lo and behold, Grub Cycle was born.

Grub Cycle quickly began picking up pace, gaining recognition for being a forward thinking social enterprise tackling a very prominent issue in Malaysia. Through doing so, a community of Grub Lovers emerged, all of whom, like us were not happy with the level of food waste in Malaysia. Through implementing several key initiatives, Grub Cycle won two awards at the Alliance BizSmart Challenge 2016 and the momentum continued.

Since then, our team has continued our fight against food waste though Grub Groceries, Grub Mobile, Grub Homemade. Through doing so we have been able to rescue surplus food from supermarkets and farms from being wasted. In addition to which, we have been able to provide a solution to the increasing cost of living for PPR (People Housing Project) community members through providing affordable vegetables. Having identified an existing issue with restaurants having to throw away over-produced food, we have now introduced our Grub Cycle app, also known as Grub Bites.

The Grub Bites app allows our community of app users to purchase tasty treats from a selection of restaurants, all for a bargain price. This allows restaurants and cafes to sell their over-produced food, reducing their wastage and increasing their revenue.
